Every list is somebody's judgement call, so here is mine with the reasoning attached rather than a ranking.
- Skilled trades. Electricians, plumbers, hvac technicians, welders. The work happens in unmapped physical space where every site is different. Robotics that handles a familiar factory cell still fails in a 1930s crawlspace.
- Healthcare delivery. Nurses, paramedics, physiotherapists, surgeons. Diagnosis is being augmented fast. Putting hands on a person is not.
- Courtroom and regulated legal work. Document review is already largely machine work. Standing before a judge, signing a filing, and carrying the liability is not, because the accountability has to attach to a licensed human.
- Teaching younger children. The job is behaviour management, safeguarding, and motivation with a tutoring component attached. Only the tutoring part automates.
- Frontline social work and care. The output is trust built over repeated contact. There is no artefact to generate.

The list matters less than the test behind it:
- Physical presence in unpredictable environments. Robotics is improving in structured spaces and is still slow and expensive everywhere else.
- Legal or professional accountability. Where a licensed human must sign and can be struck off, the role survives even when a model does most of the thinking.
- The relationship is the deliverable. If a client is buying being known by a specific person, generated output does not substitute.
Apply the test to any job and you get a better answer than any listicle. A radiologist scores low on the first trait and high on the second, which is exactly why radiology is being reshaped rather than deleted.
what actually happens instead of survival
Whole occupations rarely vanish. Tasks inside them do, and the job reforms around what is left. The bookkeeper did not disappear when spreadsheets arrived. The work moved from arithmetic to reconciliation and advice, and fewer people did more of it.
The realistic near-term pattern is compression, not extinction: the same output from a smaller team, with the remaining roles skewed toward judgement, review, and accountability. Reviewing machine output is becoming a job of its own, in every field it touches. Somebody has to read the generated contract, check the generated code, and decide whether the generated plan is sane. That work is growing, it pays reasonably, and it barely existed five years ago.
